Do you want to make a difference?

We seek enthusiastic and proactive community-spirited people to take on various responsibilities before and during the convention.

The Uganda-UK Convention (UCUK) is progressing to implement one of its core visions: to actively engage with the Ugandan Diaspora in building cohesive communities.

We encourage members with a passion for their communities to join our unique team of ambassadors.

What will I get out of volunteering?

It depends on what motivates you. Volunteering with the convention will mean you are making a difference (directly or indirectly). You could also benefit from helping or supporting other people, using existing skills or learning new ones, gaining confidence, being creative, responding to challenges, and being with others. You may feel satisfaction from playing a positive role in someone else’s life or in the community. If you’re looking for work, you will gain valuable experience for your CV. Above all else, we want our volunteers to have fun and enjoy their experience.

How much time do I have to give?

As much or as little as you want, you can tell us what you can do and when you can do it, and we will help you find a suitable volunteer role.

Some roles, especially those reaching out to the community, are challenging as you may need to work at unsociable times. Other roles have a minimum time commitment of a few hours per week. At last year’s convention, some people volunteered for a couple of hours a week; others helped out at one-off events or during community outreach campaigns.

Why do we need your help?

The Uganda Convention in the UK needs help both to raise awareness of the cause and to raise funds to sustain the annual convention held in September every year.

Our community ambassadors play a vital role in representing the convention at local events and functions, speaking about our work and the importance of the funds our supporters raise.

Convention Community Ambassadors will play a key role in helping the Convention meet its strategic objective of increasing awareness and understanding of its work with Ugandans in the UK, friends of Uganda, investors, and the general public. Our ambassadors will also help ‘tell the UCUK story’ in their local community by delivering talks to local groups and organisations.
